Amy frowned, not sure she’d read that correctly. That seemed to be a very rude greeting, at least to her. She drew a breath and persisted.

“I’m your neighbor,” she called back, forcing herself to look cheerful even though her stomach was tight with nerves. “I thought I’d call on you to introduce myself.” Surely that was the polite thing to do? It surprised her that the other woman hadn’t initiated the visit, since it must have been obvious by now that the ranch was occupied.

“Oh.” The woman’s expression was non-committal. “Well. Yes. I’m Judith Black.”
